No one had been waiting on the tips of their toes with so much agitation and excitement at the same time for this years Stereosonic Festival.
Regular faves were on the menu such as Ingrosso and new and hopefully regulars to Aussie events such as Afrojack. But what happens when you throw in a little name like Tiesto into the mix?

Well you double the space for the 10 thousand more fans that would be entering the gates of the Showground’s.

The crazy build up began during the week with most of the boys coming in early to make appearances around Melbourne.

And what a perfect day it was when the time came. It was 30 degrees with mainly blue skies. The sun was blaring out its rays like the speakers were blaring out some of this years best tunes by everyone on the multiple stages.

Let’s be frank though by saying that most people were here to come and see Tiesto.
But as a music lover and your reviewer, here is more honesty. Tiesto did not remind us all why he is the greatest DJ in the world and the most beloved, only to give us his latest Housey sounding and Electro tunes and more from other producers. Except that this still did not tame the cheering, singing along and excited crowd. There was a sense of patience however, for his typical hits though none showed up until the last 35 minutes of his almost two hour set.

In those two hours the fireworks, fire displays and laser show were all becoming involved.

Eventually a sigh of relief with the new sounds of “Lethal Industry,” “In the Dark,” and “Love Comes Again” making an appearance along with the good old “Silence,” “Adagio for Strings and “Elements of Life.”

The real highlight of the day, I must say, came from Mr Dutchmaster himself, Afrojack. Sent to play on one of the smaller stages (Carl Cox and Friends), the envy was felt for Perth that got to see him on the main stage. Surely, he would have had the crowd roaring just as loud. Mashing up all his best including his latest and this year’s knockout tune “Take Over Control,” the party didn’t stop with Afrojack.

Ingrosso had hairs raising as he gave us exactly what was expected by presenting this years most beloved tune “One” by him and a couple of his best mates. Along with this was the follow up “Miami 2 Ibiza” and everything else that makes Ingrosso so special when he spins by himself.

Benny Benassi, Major Lazer, Calvin Harris and so many more also had Stereo named one, if not the best event of the year and had everybody forgetting about the possible bad tan lines they would now be dealing with.

On the topic of the crowd, the number of festival goers might have been way too much and though everyone is entitled to their own fun, maybe some had mistaken the dance music festival for a heavy metal concert, as they moshed outrageously. The passion was their but one may ask who really knew anything about the music?

Overall, 2010 was a great year for dance music and Stereosonic confirmed that. It lived up to its high expectations, with perfect weather to go with it as well. 2011 has a lot to do!
