Welcome 2011.

Finally a new start, but still the same event of the year at the seasoned Sidney Myer Music Bowl!

This years Summadayze brought back N.E.R.D and David Guetta. The last time we saw these guys on the same flyer was back in 2010’s Future Music Festival. Boys Noize, Justice and Armand Van Helden were just some names that took the big bold titles on every poster, while Miami Horror, Nervo, Tinie Tempah, and Hook ‘n’ Sling made up the rest

With the stages named after all your beloved ice-cream flavours, N.E.R.D surely made you melt. Heating things up early before racing over to Adelaide, the boys from the US accomplished yet another ripper show for their Melbourne fans while still remaining ever so cool. Giving us some of their new stuff, they sure were not stupid enough to miss out on any of their oldies which is fair to say, are still goodies.

As main stage was already overwhelmed with the presence of huge international guest’s in Pharrel and the gang, the twins of Nervo had one of the smaller stages rocking like a massive concert. The girls behind Guetta’s mammoth hit, “When Love Takes Over” (featuring Kelly Rowland) continue to show that girl power is still well and true. Liv and Mim have always expressed such a positive stage presence and it wasn’t any different this time as they were constantly smiling, enjoying themselves on stage and singing along.

Coming off from hosting Armin Van Buuren’s VIP room the night before, energy levels were still high and the great tunes were flowing.

Back at main stage, Boys Noize had a party going in the bowl, playing his style only the way he knows. While this was happening, some local Melbourne boys made noises at one of the smaller stages managing to pull in an overflowing crowd with their Melbourne sounds.

So many great acts to see, but one of them failed to arrive on time. Armand Van Helden who was in most people’s top 5 must-check-out list, arrived to his 8:15pm set at about 9pm for no apparent reason. This meant that not only did Goodwill have to step in to fill in, but Guetta was nice enough to give up some of his time to the man from the US. Regardless he still took control of the situation and made the minor glitch seem as though it didn’t happen at all. Smashing the old ones and giving us the new ones, even “Barbra Streisand” was there.

But the day could not end any better than it did with the worlds number two DJ, David Guetta ripping apart main stage. After a huge year and a bit with hit after hit under his belt, he still knows how to do it behind the decks. Forgetting nothing from his play list, even two robots had a boogie on stage with their finger lasers, multi coloured suit and fireworks exploding out of them.

What another great Summadayze. And though it wasn’t as hot as we would have liked, Summadayze still has that same atmosphere that has kept it going strong for so long!

Where would be your ideal holiday party spot?
